Fluke Current Clamps
These clamps are designed to inductively pickup the electromagnetic field around a conductor, measure the strength and then convert it into a voltage proportional to the current flow in the conductor. This voltage is fed into a multimeter and read on the millivolt scale with each millivolt equal to one Amp of current. Current clamps can measure both AC and DC current, depending upon the sensor type. Current clamps are limited to measuring a single conductor at a time. Current clamps CANNOT measure current on electrical cords. This means appliances, lamps, electronics. Cords have two conductors, and the current flow through these conductors is diametric. Therefor the electromagnetic fields the clamps use to sense current cancel each other out, and the clamp measures effectively zero Amps.
